Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about HEAN, the beta program, pricing, and audio quality.
General
What is HEAN?
HEAN is a lossless audio player for macOS. It plays your local music files — FLAC, ALAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF — in bit-perfect quality, meaning the audio signal reaches your DAC exactly as the artist encoded it, with zero alteration.
What does "bit-perfect" mean?
Bit-perfect means the audio data from your file is sent to your DAC without any modification — no resampling, no volume normalization, no mixing. HEAN achieves this through CoreAudio Integer Mode, which bypasses the macOS audio mixer entirely.
Does HEAN require an internet connection?
No. HEAN works entirely offline. There is no account to create, no activation server, no telemetry.
Compatibility
Which audio formats are supported?
FLAC, ALAC (Apple Lossless), WAV, AIFF, MP3, AAC, and OGG. HEAN handles resolutions up to 24-bit / 192 kHz.
Which macOS versions are supported?
macOS Sonoma (14) and macOS Sequoia (15). Both Intel and Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4) Macs are natively supported.
Will there be a Windows version?
Yes. A Windows version is currently in development.
Pricing
How much will HEAN cost?
€49, one-time purchase. No subscription, no recurring fees. You buy it once, you own it.
Is the beta free?
Yes. Beta testers receive the final v1.0 release for free.
